Demand for ADHD specialist services is significantly outpacing delivery in Australia, placing mounting pressure on both consumers and mental health practitioners. Its heightened visibility and prevalence also continue to drive conversations about policy change across all levels of government, reflected in recent diagnosis and prescription reforms in multiple states. This has highlighted a growing need to better support primary and secondary care providers. Evidence consistently points to the potential of multidisciplinary and collaborative care in addressing these challenges, equipping practitioners with the skills, knowledge and mindset necessary to prioritise both person-centred care and self-care. As an organisation dedicated to fostering meaningful engagement across mental health fields and settings, MHPN welcomes this current focus on building capacity around ADHD across disciplines.

Our core National Networks Program and Online Professional Development Program provide a strong foundation for these broader discussions about ADHD. Equally, they facilitate ongoing and flexible upskilling for practitioners and promote the joint navigation of mental health issues at the forefront of sector reform. In 2026, MHPN is elevating this focus on ADHD with increased opportunities for learning and collaboration via free online professional development activities. Interested professionals are encouraged to create an account through the MHPN portal for fast and easy registration.
