Firm in the belief that interdisciplinary knowledge sharing is not only beneficial – but essential – in the mental health space, the Casey and Cardinia Network is helping pave the way for more collaborative care.

From trialling trauma-sensitive yoga and other body-centred practices to engaging in cross-cultural discussions about healthy family relationships, this group is as committed to curious thinking as it is to fun and inclusivity. Together, members from a range of professional backgrounds, including psychology, psychiatry and occupational therapy, work to foster a stimulating environment in which all can learn and grow.

Coordinator Samuel Tan, a registered counsellor, is both humbled and rejuvenated by the experience.

“I’ve become a student again”, he muses.

“Connecting with peers has reminded me that many of the questions I ask myself and struggles I face in this field are not unique.”

Acutely aware of the region’s rising rates of youth violence and mental health crises, the Network also provides much-needed support to local clinicians.

“This open sharing of information creates positive change within the community”, Sam says.

“We help each other give clear guidance and referral pathways so that our clients can confidently navigate the challenges of poor mental health.”

Proof that collaboration is a genuine superpower, the Casey and Cardinia Network continues to turn insight into action. Its impact is far-reaching, breaking down silos and improving the delivery of integrated, trauma-informed care in Victoria.
