MHPN spotlights recovery from workplace bullying and harassment this Safe Work Month

October is National Safe Work Month. For mental health professionals, safe work means not only preventing harm – it also means supporting clients after workplace bullying or harassment has occurred, helping them manage the impact and work towards recovery.

Here at MHPN, we’re marking the occasion with our next webinar, When work causes harm: Supporting recovery and work participation after bullying and harassment, presented in partnership with Comcare.

Join the conversation

This CPD opportunity brings together a multidisciplinary panel to explore what practitioners can influence, what they can’t, and how to keep the client at the centre of care.

The multidisciplinary panel will explore:

  • The physical, psychological and psychosocial impacts of workplace bullying and harassment
  • How to assess clients presenting with work-related distress
  • Evidence-based management strategies
  • Workplace factors that can influence recovery
  • Supporting safe and sustainable work participation
  • Communicating with clients, employers and other stakeholders while keeping client wellbeing at the centre

The panel will also discuss practitioner wellbeing and sustainable practice when working with these challenging situations.

When work causes harm: Supporting recovery and work participation after bullying and harassment | Wednesday 21 October | 7:15pm AEDT

Why this matters

Workplace bullying and harassment is an occupational psychosocial hazard with lasting effects on health and work capacity. Mental health conditions now account for 12% of all serious workers’ compensation claims in Australia, with median time lost from work almost five times that of other serious injuries, according to Safe Work Australia.
