Innovation and collaboration in Far North Queensland

The Cairns and Beaches Mental Health Network is a highly engaged group that brings together practitioners from across the region to share knowledge and strengthen professional connections.

Network Co-Coordinator Simone Fischer reflected on her long career in psychology, noting that “too often, professionals work in silos, sometimes even exploring similar research or approaches without ever having the chance to connect.”

This network allows mental health professionals to share knowledge, strengthen professional connections and explore innovative approaches to care together.

Known for its thoughtful and eccentric approach to meetings, this year the network focused on complementary therapies for personal and professional growth, with sessions on breath work, self-compassion, sound healing, and an exploration of holistic approaches to care at the FNQ Australian Psychological Society Conference.

These gatherings have drawn a diverse mix of professionals, including social workers, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and GPs, all sharing their unique experiences, reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary care.

In creating space for innovation and collaboration, the Cairns and Beaches Mental Health Network continues to demonstrate how regional hubs can lead the way in shaping multidisciplinary mental health care.
