Fuelled by an unwavering belief in the next generation of nurses and social workers, the Institute of Health and Management (IHM) has recently partnered with MHPN to create a new, student-focused network. Its grand launch in December brought together more than 90 emerging professionals, providing the foundation for ongoing professional connection and highlighting the value of collaboration and mentorship in the increasingly diversified mental health space.

The Network is coordinated by IHM Senior Lecturer (Social Work), Dr Rani Dasari, and takes a proactive, goal-oriented approach to empowering its members. IHM CEO and Founding Director, Dr Bijo Kunnumpurath, IHM Academic Dean and Associate Dean, Dr Balasankar Ganesa, and Associate Head of School, Dr Victoria Dessau, also addressed students during the inaugural meeting, detailing their shared vision for the future.

“Together with MHPN, we are committed to nurturing the development of early-career IHM nurses and social workers, and building stronger pathways for their professional journeys”, Dr Dasari affirms.

“Our aim is to provide a safe and inclusive space for care, guidance and meaningful engagement”.

Opportunities for connection and learning with the IHM Emerging Professionals Network will be offered quarterly. Those unable to attend these sessions face-to-face at the Institute’s headquarters in North Melbourne are invited to participate online.

“Our first meeting for 2026 will focus on workplace burnout and self-care for practitioners”, Dr Dasari says.

“We want to enhance our students’ confidence and readiness to enter these fields of practice during and after their studies”.
