Created by rural practitioners, for rural practitioners, Riverland Mental Health Professionals’ Network is a welcome addition to MHPN’s National Networks Program in 2026. Focused on addressing social and professional isolation, its aim is to nurture a sense of togetherness and unity among clinicians scattered throughout regional South Australia. The Network is purpose-built to provide flexible and ongoing opportunities for connection and mutual peer support.

The Network’s Coordinators are Flinders University Lecturer and Registered Midwife, Carol-Ann Stanborough, and credentialed Mental Health Nurse, Melanie Gilgen. Both are deeply committed to elevating the skills and holistic wellbeing of the local workforce, sharing a vision for the potential of this safe, inclusive and community-driven space.

“Our area encompasses Riverland locations including Berri, Renmark, Barmera, Loxton and Waikerie,” Carol-Ann notes.

“We want to foster meaningful connections and champion multidisciplinary collaboration.”

The Network will gather bi-monthly, with meetings occurring both in-person and online. Attendees are invited to share resources and explore self-care activities.

“Patients are presenting with increasingly complex and diverse mental health challenges but there often isn’t enough support on the ground for professionals,” Carol-Ann affirms.

“We’re hoping to host informative panel discussions and look into emerging therapies, such as EMDR.”

“Engagement is easy and accessible for everyone.”

The next Riverland Mental Health Professionals’ Network meeting is scheduled for April. Peer contributions are welcomed, as are new member signups.
