Antonio grew up in rural Italy and NSW before graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine at Sydney University. He has been a clinician for 35 years, including 20 years as a local Canberra GP where he is still practicing. As the Head of the Professional Services Review, an APS agency under the Department of Health and Aged Care, he is a passionate advocate for APS values, workplace culture and psychosocial safety. He organises mentorship programs and travels across APS agencies, delivering talks on culture and burnout.
Antonio is also the Champion for the Public Sector Neurodiversity Community of Practice. He has been caring for doctors and their loved ones for over 30 years, serving on numerous volunteer boards and committees to improve workplaces. Currently, he is on the Drs for Drs Board and chairs the executive for the National Doctors’ Health and Wellbeing Leadership Alliance. Since 2000, he has been a Board Member of the NSW and ACT Medical Benevolent Association as well. He has countless past and other current volunteer roles, including state AMA presidency and educating practitioners at ANU.
In 2019, Antonio was awarded the AMA Presidential Medal for services to refugees, doctors and their patients.
