Laura Brooks has over 17 years of experience working for a wide range of government and not-for profit organisations, in both remote and urban Western Australia, and throughout New South Wales. Laura spent the first part of her career working as a drug and alcohol counsellor, in an integrated mental health and drug service in rural and remote parts of the Kimberley. She then spent extensive time working with the urban Aboriginal community throughout Perth Western Australia in the context of family and domestic violence.
Since leaving Western Australia, Laura has worked in a variety of roles in New South Wales including case management, family support roles, targeted project work and mental health leadership. She currently works at the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre as the mental health team leader, leading a team of experienced social workers, caseworkers, counsellors, and psychologists to deliver frontline services. She has a Bachelor of Health Science in Indigenous Health and post-graduate qualifications in addiction.
She is a certified trainer for the Safe and Together Model and is passionate about the way in which mental health issues intersect with women’s experiences of family and domestic violence.
