On Monday 28 October, MHPN’s entire staff participated in a day of cultural awareness activities at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Narrm, Melbourne.

The day began with Cultural Safety Training where we learned about cultural safety in the workplace, reflecting on the importance of establishing an inclusive work environment. We explored the impacts of unconscious bias and considered how we could counter this both from organisational and individual perspective.

The day concluded with a guided walking tour along the banks of the Birrarung Marr (Yarra River) to learn about the living cultural heritage of the Wurundjeri people, the land on which our office is located. We heard about significant meeting places and traditional customs of the Wurundjeri people and gained greater insight into their rich history.

MHPN would like to extend our gratitude to the Koorie Heritage Trust for providing us the opportunity to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
We look forward to reflecting upon our learnings and experiences further as we progress our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.
