Andy has worked as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist within private practice for over ten years. Beginning his career in Yamba (Northern NSW), he worked predominantly with those experiencing chronic disease and pain. It was here that Andy started to understand the value of person-centred care, and underlying models that addressed client’s mental and physical health.
For the past six years Andy has been running his own business ‘Gold Coast Health and Performance’ on the Gold Coast, QLD. Their key vision is to collaboratively work with local referring relationships to ensure a trauma-informed approach to exercise within the gym setting.
In 2022, Andy achieved his Master’s in Mental Health through Southern Cross University. He was then the first student to graduate and be hired as part of the teaching staff. His plans are to move further into research with one question in mind “How does contemporary research explain how exercise influences our mental health?”.
With contemporary theories, Andy believes that we are closer to understanding how we can meaningfully prescribe exercise (movement) as a dose-response relationship to current clinically diagnosed mental illnesses.
