Bruce is University of Western Australia professor, clinician and award-winning cancer researcher.
He is also one of Australia’s foremost leaders in the promotion of good fathering, having founded the hugely successful Fathering Project which now has school dads’ groups in every state. It has already helped hundreds of thousands of fathers become better dads and father figures through schools, workplaces, community groups and the internet.
This is predicted to have a profound impact on the incidence of problems like substance abuse, bullying, crime and depression amongst young people.
“The Fathering Project is the most powerful force in Australia to change the future of our kids.”
Hon John Anderson AO, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.
Bruce has written three best-selling books on fathering and has spoken to over 16,000 men in live audiences in seven countries on this subject. In the past year alone, the fathering project has had a projected impact on around 700,000 men.
Bruce has been publicly acknowledged as ‘the Fred Hollows of fathering in Australia’ (Steve Biddulph) and his work and books have been recommended by many prominent Australians including Tim Costello, Justin Langer, Dennis Lillee, Adam Simpson, John Worsfold, John Howard, Fiona Stanley, Kim Beazley and Geraldine Doogue.
Bruce has also served as a volunteer doctor in poor countries which have suffered earthquakes, tsunamis and cyclones. He has won three UWA Teacher-of-the-Year awards, was an All-Australian intervarsity footballer and he speaks five languages.
He is married to Jacqueline, and has three children. Bruce enjoys camping, wine tasting, AFL, cricket and kayaking.
In 2013, he received an Order of Australia and was also named Western Australian of the Year.
