Harry Minas is a psychiatrist working on issues around three broad areas:
1. mental health system development, particularly in low-resource and post-conflict settings;
2. culture and mental health, with a focus on mental health of immigrant and refugee communities and the development of services for culturally diverse societies; and
3. the human rights of people with mental illness.
Central to all of these is the issue of leadership for system change. Minas, in collaboration with Byron Good and Alex Cohen of Harvard Medical School, developed the first mental health leadership program for mental health professionals from low- and middle-income countries (iMHLP) in 2001 (the 11th annual course was run in 2012), and the first Master of International Mental Health degree.
The Mental Health Professionals’ Network (MHPN) respectfully acknowledges the Wurundjeri and the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nation, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which our office is situated. We also acknowledge Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
