Dr Michael Tam is a Specialist General Practitioner with a particular interest in integrated care and adult mental health. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), and has a master’s degree in mental health from the former NSW Institute of Psychiatry (which is now part of HETI, the Health Education and Training Institute of NSW Health). Michael is a Staff Specialist of the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Mental Health Service, and the Director of the Primary and Integrated Care Unit, which has a focus on health services development, evaluation, and research. The Unit runs a clinical service that provides GP-type care, and physical health care, to people living with severe mental illness in the Fairfield and Liverpool regions of Sydney, in partnership with the District community mental health services, especially those who are not well connected with mainstream primary care.
Michael is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer of the Discipline of General Practice, at the UNSW medical school. He is a board director of the South Western Sydney Primary Health Network (SWSPHN). He has governance and advisory roles in mental health across the local health district, primary health network, and the RACGP.
