Ly is a mother of three and a passionate lived and living experience advocate who draws on her own journey of raising a daughter with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability, and ADHD. Born overseas and from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background, Ly understands firsthand the joys, challenges, and complexities of navigating systems designed to support children and families.
Through her lived experience, Ly has navigated many milestones alongside her daughter, including the often-challenging transition from kindergarten to school. By accessing services, community supports, and early intervention programs, she developed practical strategies that helped her daughter and family through this important stage. Today, she is committed to sharing these experiences to provide hope, reassurance, and practical insights for other parents and carers facing similar journeys.
In her role as Lived Experience Lead within children’s services in Victoria, Ly works to elevate the voices of children, families, and carers in service design, policy, and practice. She is particularly passionate about supporting carers from CALD communities who may face additional barriers, including lower health literacy and difficulties navigating complex systems such as the NDIS, education, and Centrelink.
Ly believes that every family’s story matters, and that lived experience is a powerful source of knowledge, resilience, and connection. Through sharing her story, she aims to empower carers, build confidence, and remind families that they are not alone in their journey.
