Nia Ellis is a 52-year-old florist located in Melbourne, married with two children, aged 16 and 13 years. Six months after having her second child, Nia was diagnosed with Post Natal Depression. She realised she had been suffering from it ever since her first child had been born. She began medication and the dark sadness began to lift.
Nia wishes she’d had access to someone that could have told her this wasn’t normal and that there was help available. She struggles to remember those first few years of motherhood and her children as babies and instead recalls only feelings of loneliness and being overwhelmed.
The Mental Health Professionals’ Network (MHPN) respectfully acknowledges the Wurundjeri and the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nation, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which our office is situated. We also acknowledge Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
